L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts has opened its very first bookshop, L’Escarboucle. Dedicated to the world of jewelry, the bookshop is located in the Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau, a stone’s throw from theaters. Its poetic, enigmatic name is derived from the Latin word carbunculus (small embers), once used to designate precious stones of a fiery red hue: exceptional rubies, spinels, and garnets. The store carries some three thousand French and foreign-language works on jewelry, jewelry designers, requisite savoir-faire, gemology, applied arts, and aesthetic evolutions over the course of time.
New exhibition "Paris, City of Pearls"
We are all familiar with pearls. Sought-after since ancient times, they still inspire the great modern jewelers. But how many people know that they were at the heart of an intense trade between the Gulf and France from the late 19th to the mid-20th century? How many remember that they were at the center of the luxury industry and Parisian culture for decades?
Organized by L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, the exhibition Paris, City of Pearls, from November 21st, 2024 until June 1st, 2025, recounts the forgotten history of this amazing artistic, commercial and human adventure.
"JEWELS AND LITERATURE"
L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts has partnered with the Bibliothèque Nationale, France’s national library, to present “Jewels and Literature,” a new digital dossier on Les Essentiels, the library’s website.

Discover the podcasts of L'École, School of Jewelry Arts, which reveal the fascinating stories and secret lore of jewelry from around the world.
Jewels are everywhere. We admire them in the windows of master jewelers, and in the collections of the world's greatest museums.
Young lovers, movie stars, and heads of state each have their treasures: objects of desire, fascinating ornaments, or symbols of power. But every piece of jewelry also holds its secrets. Secrets of fabrication… but also… relationships. Stories of love and separation. Myth and curses. Moments of glory or downfalls. The height of an empire or civilization, the spark of a revolution.
